Once upon a time there was a little girl who was feeling bored with her toys. She was sitting under a leafy tree at the bottom of her garden, when, suddenly, a small branch broke and fell from the tree to the ground. It fell right next to her and strangely started singing for her.

Wrap me in bright colors, day and night, keep me safe - And when I hear magic in the air, I will take you to a treasure.

The girl was thrilled to hear the branch singing. 'This must be a magic wand,' she thought, picked it up and took it home. When he got home, he went straight to the sewing basket where his mother kept colorful balls of wool. One by one, she began to roll the wand in bright colors. Then she took her into the bedroom and found a safe place for her to stay on the small table next to the bed.

When she woke up the next morning, she could hear the magic wand singing for her.

Today there is magic in the air - I will take you to a treasure to find!

As she took the wand, she felt it start to swing and seemed to say, 'Follow me'. She let the wand show her where to go and ended up in the garden, where some beautiful bird feathers were left in the grass. 'This must be the treasure,' thought the girl and decided to tie the feathers to the magic wand, making it even more beautiful.

The next morning, when she woke up, the magic wand was singing to her again.

Today there is magic in the air - I will take you to a treasure to find!

She followed the magic wand around the house and on the beach and there in the golden sand were some beautiful shiny shells. 'This must be the treasure,' thought the girl and decided to tie the shells to her magic wand, making it even more beautiful.

The next morning, when she woke up, the magic wand was singing again for her.

Today there is magic in the air - I will take you to a treasure to find!

But this time, the magic wand did not take her out of the house. On the contrary, singing along the way, he took her to his mother and father's room. There, in bed, were her parents with a baby lying between them. The baby was wrapped in a warm blanket. 'This must really be the treasure', thought the girl and held her magic wand in bright colors and beautiful feathers and shells for the baby to see. The baby smiled and the little girl was so happy that she thought she was going to explode!

From that day on, the magic wand helped the little girl in many adventures and to find treasures. However, his favorite treasure was the new baby wrapped in the blanket on his parents' bed.

A story for a 5 year old girl who would soon have a new little brother. Her parents worried that their only daughter might be jealous of the new baby and would not accept him. The story helped a lot to motivate his acceptance and involvement.

This is a story by Susan Perrow from her book Healing Stories for Challenging Behaviors.
